Lars Kepler. That has been a name I have been following ever since i read their first book; The Hypnotist. And I have been waiting for the latest book right from the moment of announcement like a fan waiting in for his/her favorite super hero movie. So, the moment the book landed on my hands, i devoured it within 2 days. This is the sixth book of the Joona Lima series.
The story opens up with the murder of the Swedish Foreign Minister in the presence of a woman companion. The killing was in a professional execution style but the woman was left alone as witness. Police suspect terrorist involvement due to the high profile murder. More violent deaths follow and the police are not able to make a headway. Joona is brought in to find the killers before more bodies starts to tumble out who investigates this along with Saga Bauer. Is this a terrorist attack or part of a personal vendetta? The answer to this question is pretty much the remaining story.
As in the previous books, the detailing that goes into the book is a major plus point. The story takes its own sweet time to unravel but the fine details that we come across while reading makes us very much a part of the story and the happenings. It gives us a feel that we are an eyewitness also adding an edge to the tension building up as we read through. The suspense is always an integral part of the Joona series. There is ample violence in the book as in the other books of the series which some people may find hard to digest. But in this book, we are able to predict the inevitable suspense a tad too early making us lose the interest. The suspense is out a bit long before the suspense and we ae able to predict how the ending is going to turn out to be.
Scandinavian mysteries are always a class of their own. And the name Lars Kepler definitely does have a place in the legion. For me, it was an exciting read except towards the end. This is a must read for fans of crime or investigative thrillers and those who can stand bit of violence over the pages.
