There are times when we get comfort from the most unexpected quarters of our lives. Having read the premise previously, I have been searching for this book for quite some time and was able to get hold of the book when I needed it the most.
Nora Seed's life is not exactly the way she wanted it to be. Her life seem to take disastrous turns and she just wants the same to end. She just wants to die and decides to commit suicide. In the space between life and death she finds herself in a library which presents her with new folds of life which she can live out. Does she come out of the strange library in one piece? Does she live out the life she wants? Does she get second chance or is it being just given up? forms the remaining story.
The book was popular enough that by the time I laid my hands on the book, I had a fair idea of the story. But that did not deter me from enjoying the book. The language was simple and crisp and I was able to connect well with the prose. I loved many of the quotes that came up in the book which stuck a chord in my heart. Mathew Haig had done an extremely good job in that department. For a person like me who have always been loitering in the deepest qualms of depression, this was sort of a comfort zone providing me with the much needed solace. At the same time, this book does not give me a weary feeling that I get while reading self help book. If I try to dig deep, there might be some flaws but then I was not in the mindset while reading this and this had a good impact on me all way long and did give me a mixed feelings. More than anything, I just loved the concept of a library and how the whole story revolves around the same.
Life is full of chances and how you perceive it. A slight change in thought can turn your life totally the other way round. That is the exact feeling I had on finishing the book. This will be a good read for people who does need a shoulder to lean on when in distress emotionally.
Different kind of a story. Happy that it was able to give solace to your depression. It could even be made as a movie if not made so far.
ReplyDeleteYes. It was a welcome read given my mindset. You should try reading it.
DeleteI am not sure how feasible it will be as a movie. I mean if the essence will be well captured.
