From what started as a book that I took a liking for the cover; the writer Lars Kepler has never failed me. Book after book, I followed them feverishly. 'Lazarus' was one book that I got in a book shop where I least expected it.
The body count has started rising again. A string of murders is taking place. What seems to be unconnected murders get linked to Joona Lima. He strongly believes that Jurek Walter is still at large; even though Saga and Nathan are necessarily convinced. Joona races to get his daughter to a secure place and Jurek might attack her. Does Joona protect her daughter and does he catch Jurek? Will the body count rise? forms the remaining plotline.
A very interesting plot on how things are progressing from the previous book. Jurek lives up to his name as in the previous books. His characterization of pure evil was very diabolic. The story might seem a tad too long but there was no lag anywhere in the plot. A read of the previous book might helpful for new readers to have a full-on experience. It was really interesting to read through how Saga, Jurek, and Joona are getting entangled in the whole mess. Bringing a small exposure to the family of Saga brought a new angle to the story. The story gives me the feel of a movie where the story starts to take faster wings right at the start where the hero steps in right into the middle of the trouble and makes the loose ends tight. Having said all these, the climax did not stand up to my expectation.
Book after book, Lars Kepler has always set the bar high, and here also they repeat the same. Except for the end, the book was fairly engaging. The people who are following the Lima series will definitely enjoy this book.
